The Polynesian Voyaging Canoes Hōkūleʻa & Hikianalia arrived at Palekai this morning to a few hundred people who had gathered to welcome the crew with traditional hawaiian protocol and ʻoli. Students of Keaukaha Elementary, Ke Ana La’ahana, and Ka Umeke Schools welcomed our voyagers to Moku O Keawe. They gave powerful and inspiring presentations and all who were in attendance felt blessed to be there.The waʻa and their crews will be in Hilo all week before they leave for Tahiti, this Saturday.

Senator Kahele Attends UH-Hilo Graduation

HILO, State Senator Gil Kahele along with other dignitaries and community leaders attended the UH-Hilo Spring 2014 commencement ceremonies at the Edith Kanakaole Stadium. Parker Ranch Executive Neil “Dutch” Kuyper gave the keynote address. Todayʻs event was the culmination for many students and their families of years of hard work and dedication to pursue their higher education. As a staunch supporter of the University of Hawaii at Hilo, Senator Kahele works tirelessly at the legislature to ensure that critical programs and construction projects are funded year after year. Congratulation to the Vulcan graduates and their families!

Team Kahele’s Flagship Hilo Banner

With a special mahalo to the Matsuno family of Hilo for their support, Team Kahele erected a major sign/banner at the strategic and highly visible intersection of Puainako and Volcano Highway across from the Prince Kuhio shopping mall in Hilo. With over 8000 vehicles passing through this key intersection daily, and the 3 feet by 10 feet banner placed 14 feet high it offers a great unobstructed opportunity to continue to build name recognition in Hilo’s Senate District One.
