Kahele Attends Kamehameha Statue Lei Draping Ceremony In Hilo

HILO, Hawaiʻi – Senator Gil Kahele attended the honoring of King Kamehameha I with a lei draping ceremony for his statue at Hilo bay front on Sunday.The Hawaii County Band provided music for the event and the Royal Order of Kamehameha I, Ahahui O Kaahumanu Helu Ekolu, Hale O Na Alii O Hawaii Halau O Kalakaua and others presented hookupu with the long flower lei.

2012 Kamehameha Festival At Moku Ola

HILO, Hawaiʻi – Senator Gil Kahele and Team Kahele spent a sunny Saturday afternoon at Moku Ola (Coconut Island) to celebrate Kamehameha Day. Entertainment, food booths, games, and fellowship took place on the island and was hosted by the Royal Order Of Kamehameha and other community organizations. Kamehameha Day is a public holiday of the state of Hawaii and is celebrated June 11. It honors Kamehameha the Great, the monarch who first established the unified Kingdom of Hawaii — comprising the islands of Niihau, Kauai, Oahu, Molokai, Lanai, Kahoolawe, Maui and Hawaii.n 1883, a statue of King Kamehameha I was dedicated in Honolulu by King David Kalakaua. The Honolulu statue is a duplicate, because the original statue was lost at sea but it was later retrieved and now stands in Kapaau, North Kohala. There is are duplicates of this statue in Hilo bayfront and in Emancipation Hall at the Capitol Visitor Center in Washington, D.C. This afternoon their is a lei draping at the Kamehameha Statue in Hilo at 5:00PM.

Team Kahele Canvasses Hilo and Kaumana

HILO, Hawaiʻi – On Saturday, Team Kahele canvassed various areas of Hilo focusing on the Kaumana and upper Kaumana areas of Hilo. Fueled by more and more volunteers Team Kahele distributed hundreds of brochures and was invited to put up yard signs and banners by residents and constituents supporting Senator Kahele and his candidacy for State Senate District One.
