Friends Of Gil Kahele Fundraiser, April 6th 2011

On Wednesday night Senator Kahele hosted a fundraiser at the Pacific Club in Honolulu. Many of the Senator’s friends and legislative colleagues came to enjoy the evening with the freshman Senator from the Big Island. In attendance were Senate President Shan Tsutsui, Speaker of the House Calvin Say, Lt. Gov. Brian Schatz and many other longtime family and friends.

As the evening was winding down, Gov. Neil Abercrombie made a special appearance and spoke for several minutes about Senator Kahele and his early accomplishments as a community organizer from Miloli’i in the early 1980’s when then Gov. Abercrombie was a young Senator in the Hawai’i State Senate. Senator Kahele was honored to have Hawaii’s “Ambassador of Aloha” Danny Kaleikini as the host for the evening and in Senator Kahele’s own words:

“Danny did what Danny does best! was an amazing event and I felt honored and humbled by all who attended to support me and take the time to share their evening with me and my ohana”

Welcome Statement by Senator Gil Kahele

Aloha Mai Kakou!

It is an honor and privilege to be able to serve the constituents of Senatorial District 2 on the Big Island of Hawai’i.

The Big Island has always been the home for me and my ohana. For over 30 years I have been involved in numerous community development activities, which resulted in homes, jobs and protecting our shorelines and ocean communities. Nevertheless, I was deeply humbled and honored by the faith and trust Governor Neil Abercrombie placed in me when he selected me to fill the senate seat vacated by Senator Russell Kokubun.

Senatorial District 2 reaches from Hilo to Manuka, 18 miles west of Na’alehu. It is a vast district, home to vibrant communities, beautiful landscapes, world-class geological attractions, amazing agricultural potential and the fastest-growing population in the state.

There are real challenges and issues for our communities and the environment. From my years of volunteer community experience, as well as the many conversations I have had with you during these past few months, here are our top priorities for Senatorial District 2:
· Upgrading our infrastructure
· Expanding our state highways
· Improving, broadening and implementing our ideas and actions on sustainability and agriculture
· Creating jobs
· Using our natural resources to harness energy
· Preserving our precious and unique environment, found nowhere else in the world
These are urgent issues and I need your support and feedback. This website is a bridge between you and me no matter where you are in Senatorial District 2. Email me your concerns, request a visit to your community, sign up for my monthly newsletter and important updates and most importantly check back here frequently.

My staff and I are here to serve you. My office is your office, your concerns are my concerns and I am doing my very best to represent all of Senatorial District 2 and the State of Hawai’i.

Together we can make our state, our island, our district, our communities and our home a place where our keiki and future generations can thrive and share a bright and prosperous future together.

Hau’oli Ka Mana’o,

Senator Gilbert Kahele
Ka’u, Puna, Hilo
