Hilo, Hawaiʻi ~ Team Kahele joined hundreds of other participants at the 2014 Relay For Life to fight cancer Saturday night as Tropical Storm Wali dumped torrential rains and flash floods on Hilo.  All who attended had a great time trying to stay dry under Team Kaheleʻs tent which featured a chili/rice dinner, “memory hearts” purchased the night before and LB stickers in honor of Team Kahele member Les Botelho who passed away earlier this year from cancer. Mahalo Nui Loa to all those who attended and volunteered their time to set up, breakdown, bring a pot luck dish and walk with Senator Gil Kahele as Team Kahele raised over $5000.00 to fight cancer!

HILO, Hawaiʻi ~ Last night at the Hilo Civic Auditorium State Senator Gil Kahele hosted a Benefit Concert for the American Cancer Society and Hiloʻs Relay For Life. The concert was attended by over 1800 that braved the Hilo rain to enjoy top local entertainment from Grammy Nominated KAHULANUI and Nā Hōku Hanohano award winners KUANA TORRES-KAHELE and MANAʻO COMPANY. Through the unbelievable generosity of all in attendance, $5010.00 in donations were collected and 100% of all the donations were donated to the American Cancer Society. The event was c0-emceed by Hawaiiʻs Ambassador of Aloha, Uncle Danny Kaleikini and Honolulu KUMU FM Radio morning host, Devon Nekoba. The evening also featured powerful testimonyʻs by cancer survivors Karen Teshima and Aunty Sandi Claveria and a video tribute to Leslie Botelho, a close friend of Senator Kahele who lost his life to cancer earlier this year. It was truly an amazing event for our Hilo community, that raised money for a great cause and left all who attended with a warm feeling and sense of accomplishment. Mahalo Nui Loa to all the hard working volunteers that made the event a huge success and to the HSTA, UPW, ILWU and HGEA that provided the manpower to serve the food to over 1800 people in 1 hour! IMG_9824

HILO, On Thursday, July 17th at the Hilo Civic Auditorium, Hiloʻs State Senator Gil Kahele will be hosting a benefit concert to raise money for the American Cancer Society and Hiloʻs Relay For Life at the Hilo Civic Auditorium. Grammy nominated and 3 time Nā Hōkū Hanohano nominee KAHULANUI will lead off the concert at 4:35PM. Known for their “Hawaiian Swing” orchestra style music of the 1920ʻs and 1930ʻs led by Lolena Naipo, KAHULANUI will lead off the benefit concert and set the stage for the next artist, Hiloʻs own and Nā Hōkū Hanohano award winner KUANA TORRES-KAHELE. Kuana who rarely does any concerts in Hawaiʻi has graciously accepted his Uncleʻs request to help raise money for cancer and bring together our Hawaiʻi Island community in food and fellowship with his beautiful voice, lyrics and song. Wrapping up the evening will be a band well known throughout the islandʻs and co-led by Hiloʻs own son, Kaulana Pakele as we feature MANAʻO CO. as the grand finale! MANAʻOʻs full band will be performing and well known songs such as “Drop Baby Drop” and “Aloha” are sure to be a crowd favorite. There may also be a special surprise guest playing with MANAʻO CO. so be sure to not miss their performance! Also featured at the event will be Bouncy Castles for the keiki, balloon artists, face painters, chili / rice dinner and two grand prizes will be given away via lucky number an iPad and a Flatscreen TV! The event will be co-emceed by Hawaiiʻs “Ambassador of Aloha”, Uncle DANNY KALEIKINI and KUMU FMʻs morning show radio host DEVON NEKOBA.  100% of the proceeds raised at the event will go to the Hawaiʻi Island Relay for Life and the American Cancer Society. Doors open at 4:30PM!!
