State Senator Gilbert Kahele is a native Hawaiian from Miloliʻi on the Island of Hawaiʻi. Appointed to the Hawaiʻi State Senate in January 2011 he received 55.7% of the vote in the August 11th 2012 primary election to outright win the newly created Senate District One seat representing Hilo. A student of history Senator Kahele enjoys traveling, fishing and spending time with his friends and ʻohana. He resides in Waiakea Uka with his wife Linda of forty years.
