Hilo State Senator Kaialiʻi Kahele was featured in the Spring 2016 UH Alumni Magazine along with fellow Hawaiʻi Air National Guard Pilot & UH alumnus, BJ Itoman. Senator Kahele, a 1998 graduate of the University of Hawaiʻi Mānoa & member of the UH Menʻs Volleyballl Team spoke about his experiences at UH and how it helped him cope with challenges later on in life. Appointed to the Hawaiʻi State Senate by Governor David Y. Ige, Senator Kaialiʻi Kahele represents Hilo, Hawaiʻi.

Over one hundred people joined State Senator Kaialiʻi Kahele and his family for the grand opening of the TEAM KAHELE Hilo Campaign Headquarters on Thursday, May 19th. Situated in the heart of Hilo at 21 Kanoelehua Avenue the headquarters is open daily from 9AM to 3PM and visitors are welcome. A traditional Hawaiian blessing was conducted by Kumu Hula Kekoa Harman and the untying of the maile lei officially opened the headquarters for all. An evening of food, entertainment and fellowship followed as the 2016 campaign for the Senate District One seat held formerly by the late Senator Gilbert Kahele is well underway!

Major Kaialiʻi Kahele (Hawaiʻi Air National Guard) was awarded the 2015 Launa ʻOle award at the Hickam Air Force Base Officers Club by HIANG Commander Brigadier General Ryan T. Okahara. The award, given to the top Hawaiʻi Air Guard traditional field grade officer, was given to Major Kahele due to his extensive work in 2015 at HQ Pacific Air Forces, the 109th Air Operations Group and the 204th Airlift Squadron. Major Kahele was also recognized earlier this year as the 613th Air Operation Center & Air Mobility Division Guard Officer of the Year and the HQ Pacific Air Forces Guard Officer of the Year by PACAF Commander General Lori J. Robinson.
